Everyday Security Tips

Don't make it easy for unauthorized persons to access your personal information.

These are everyday "around the house" suggestions that may help protect your identity, and your money.

Remember...Champaign Bank will never request account information via an email or ask you to click on a link to verify personal account data.

  • Check "washers" can eliminate ink from a regular pen, but not from gel pens. Get in the habit of using a gel pen when writing checks.
  • Use a shredder to safely dispose of any items (no longer required for your records) that include account numbers or ways to access your account such as financial solicitations and "checks" for cash advances on a credit card.
  • Watch your mail! Do not place any bill payments in your mailbox for pick-up. Take your outgoing mail to the Post Office or use the Bill Pay feature of our NetTeller™.
  • Don't give personal financial information to anyone unless you know the person or organization ...never over the phone unless you have initiated the call.
  • Check your bills carefully and notify companies if you do not receive regular bills in a timely manner.
  • Review bank and credit card statements promptly and report any unauthorized activity so the accounts can be closed.
  • Protect your checking account number by storing checks in a safe place. Report lost or stolen Champaign Bank checks immediately by calling 800-604-9368.
  • Keep a list of all credit / debit / ATM cards and bank account numbers, expiration dates , credit limits and customer service numbers. A photocopy of the front and back is a convenient record if you can easily read the numbers. Report a lost or stolen Champaign Bank Debit or ATM card by calling 800-604-9368.
  • Receipts from purchases that have debit / credit card numbers should not be casually discarded. Keep your ATM receipts and check them against your account statement each month.

NOTICE OF CHANGES IN TEMPORARY FDIC INSURACE COVERAGE FOR TRANSACTION ACCOUNTS- All funds in a "noninterest-bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from December 31,2010, through December 31,2012. This temporary unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000 available to depositors under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules. The term "noninterest-bearing transaction account " includes a traditional checking account or demand deposit account on which the insured depository institution pays no interest. It also includes Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts ("IOLTAs"). It does not include other accounts, such as traditional checking or demand deposit accounts that may earn interest, NOW accounts, and money-market deposit accounts.
